Celebrating Black History Month
As Gemini continues to grow as a global company we remain committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) as central tenets of our mission to empower the individual through crypto. During Black History Month, we engaged in meaningful discussions as a company, with presentations, talks, and community service action to celebrate black history.
The wider crypto community is growing dynamically and becoming more diverse, and we aim to play a role in supporting the continued equitable development of our industry. Throughout Black History Month our team developed a variety of programs and initiatives to foster an inclusive and vibrant workplace that welcomes people of all backgrounds and from all communities.
Last month, we held a webinar covering the heritage, history, and continued evolution of Black History Month, created a reading list to help parents educate their children about black history and black activism, and shared twice-weekly profiles of black people who have made history in a personal and meaningful way to Gemini employees. We also further supported the expansion of New York Cares’ digital library recording children’s stories about social justice or that provided diverse perspectives.
Our programming culminated in an effort to bridge Black History Month and Women’s History Month, as we welcomed former White House appointee and head of the National Policy Network of Women of Color in Blockchain, Cleve Mesidor, for a fireside chat. Cleve discussed the importance of diversity in the industry, highlighting the work women of color are doing in blockchain and crypto on a global scale, and her experience in the public and private sectors.
Gemini also sponsored this year’s National Briefing of Women of Color in Blockchain, which brought together U.S. Representatives and industry leaders to discuss the ways that crypto is supporting small businesses. We look forward to more inspiring internal events and external action during Women’s History Month.
Our support for black communities, and our commitment to DEI, is an ever-expanding effort that we know will positively impact Gemini and the crypto community at large. Our industry must acknowledge and embrace an influx of ideas, backgrounds, and cultures that will continue to drive the cryptocurrency world to reach new heights.
We are focused on making Gemini a more diverse and inclusive community, and we're actively working on building diverse candidate pipelines for all of our roles, as we believe that we must reflect the diversity of the communities we engage with and aim to serve — join us!
