NEAR Is Now Available on Gemini

Gemini has added support for NEAR Protocol (NEAR). Customers can now deposit, withdraw, and trade NEAR on Gemini. And NEAR staking will be added in the coming weeks.

About NEAR Protocol

NEAR Protocol is a proof-of-stake layer-1 blockchain. It was founded in 2017 by Illia Polosukhin and Alexander Skidanov, with its mainnet launching in 2020. It scales through a sharded design called Nightshade, which splits network activity across parallel segments, and it has focused on “chain abstraction,” making it easier for users and developers to work across multiple blockchains without managing separate wallets and bridges.

The NEAR Token

NEAR is the network’s native token. It is used to pay transaction fees, stake with validators to help secure the network, and vote on governance decisions such as protocol upgrades.

NEAR meets the company’s listing standards following an asset review process. It is one of several networks working to make blockchain applications easier to use at scale, and supporting it gives customers access to an asset tied to that ecosystem.
