Building at Gemini: What Our Winter Intern Class Shipped

This winter, Gemini welcomed a cohort of talented interns who hit the ground running. Embedded across product teams and working on live projects from day one, they shipped features that real customers use and left the codebase better than they found it.
By the Numbers
- 13+ features shipped or in progress
- 7 product areas touched
- 21 interns in the cohort
A Winter of Real Ownership
At Gemini, interns aren’t handed documentation tasks or toy projects. They’re embedded in product teams, scoped to real user problems, and expected to deliver. This winter’s class was no exception. Across staking, credit card, predictions, auth, and more, they took features from idea to production.
What they built
From day-one user-facing features to internal infrastructure, here’s a look at what the winter class delivered.
Instant stake for ETH, SOL & MON
- Customers no longer have to wait to start earning staking rewards, eliminating a key point of friction in the experience.
2FA page redesign
- All two-factor authentication options consolidated into a single view, with improved account recovery visibility to reduce lockouts.
Credit card monthly rewards recap email
- A revamped monthly summary email giving credit card customers a cleaner, more informative look at their rewards.
V2 withdrawal & network API endpoints
- New API endpoints including /v2/withdraw, fee estimation, reverse asset lookup, and enhanced multichain transfer support.
Credit card transaction decline emails
- Specific decline notifications for cardholders covering overlimit, spend cap, fraud, and card status. Previously, only 12% of decline codes triggered any notification at all. This is in testing.
X / Twitter bot
- An automated bot to support Gemini’s growth and marketing presence on X.
CC transaction search
- Search credit card transactions by merchant name instead of raw transaction titles, making it much easier to find what you’re looking for.
Borrow (Gemini Wallet)
- Shipped borrow functionality within the Gemini Wallet experience.
Predictions game-time notifications
- Real-time alerts at key moments — halftime, final 5 minutes, and more — keeping users engaged during live events.
Google & Apple OAuth
- Sign-up and sign-in via Google and Apple across web, iOS, and Android, removing passwords and email verification from the flow. Currently at 50% rollout.
Predictions iOS widgets
- Home screen widgets showing featured markets with real-time odds and contract countdowns, plus a positions view for active contracts. This is in testing.
Merchant search for credit card
- A 90-day merchant enrichment cache that cuts redundant MX API calls by ~75%, saving roughly $7K/month, while delivering cleaner transaction displays.
Genie: Internal AI data tool
- A Databricks-powered tool that generates SQL from natural language questions across Credit Card, Exchange/Predictions, and Customer data. This is great for ad-hoc exploration alongside validated Looker dashboards.
Looking ahead: Apply for Gemini's Fall Internship Program
Thirteen projects. One winter. This cohort proved that early-career engineers, given real ownership and real problems, can make a meaningful difference. We’re proud of what the winter class built and grateful to have had them on the team.
We’re now accepting applications for our fall internship program. If you want to ship real products, work alongside talented engineers, and make an impact at one of the leading crypto platforms, we’d love to hear from you. Applications are open now. Don’t miss your chance to be part of the next class.
