What is Hyperliquid?

Hyperliquid (HYPE) is an EVM native layer-1 blockchain and decentralized “everything exchange” launched in late 2023. It was designed for derivatives trading, allowing traders to make leveraged bets on crypto prices.

The HYPE token was initially distributed on November 29th, 2024 via an airdrop to early users of the protocol, with a significant portion directly dropped to the wallets of these users with zero lockup. The token can be staked within the Hyperliquid ecosystem, with rewards that may vary based on protocol parameters, or used to vote on HIPs (Hyperliquid Improvement Proposals). HYPE is also consumed as gas on the HyperEVM network.
