Meet Our Partners Defining the Next Generation of Sport

From an elite rowing event that features Olympians, to an up-and-coming skier taking the slopes by storm and a Bitcoin-powered English football team set on taking on incumbents, Gemini is thrilled to partner with athletes and teams defining the next generation of sport.

Community and innovation have been central to crypto’s evolution. At Gemini, we believe that leaning in on those facets goes beyond our business or our industry, and we are delighted to see teams and athletes we support taking them to heart.

In this blog, we introduce you to three Gemini partners that exemplify excellence in sport.

The Gemini Boat Race

For the third year running, Gemini is the Principal Partner of the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race. The Gemini Boat Race, between perennial rivals University of Oxford and University of Cambridge, will take place on Sunday, March 26, 2023, on the River Thames in London. This is a special alliance for Gemini, with our founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss having competed in the 2010 Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race in the Oxford Blue Boat.

Our partnership, which began in 2021, supports the high performance rowing training at Oxford and Cambridge. In line with our focus of building community, we’ve also engaged young people with limited access to rowing through The Gemini Boat Race Bursary Scheme.

Ava Keenan

A 12-year-old mogul skier from Vail, Colorado, Ava is currently ranked 28th in the United States for all ages and holds the top spot in her age group, while showing no signs of slowing down on the slopes or in the rankings. Ava dreams of becoming the first black skier to win an Olympic gold medal, and she’s well on her way.

Her goal this year is to land a mute grab 360 and a back X combo in competition. Check out this trailer of a Warren Miller film featuring Ava and her incredible skills on the mountain. We are thrilled to support Ava on her journey to reach the top echelons of her sport.

Real Bedford FC

Based in Bedford, England, Real Bedford FC currently holds the top spot in Division One of the Spartan South Midlands League. The club was purchased in 2022 by Bitcoin enthusiast and podcaster Peter McCormack, who has the stated goal of guiding the club to the English Premier League.

Accepting bitcoin donations, the club aims to build support across the crypto community to reach its goals. In true crypto fashion, the club leans in on transparency, providing public and accessible income reports. Through experience, focus, mental strength, hard work, and some luck, the club continues to push forward toward promotion this year.
