Which cryptos can I gift?
The Gemini Gifting feature supports bitcoin (BTC) only. Gifters are able to send bitcoin from their Gemini trading balance.
How much does it cost to gift crypto?
There is no transfer fee to send BTC through Gemini Gifting. Standard Gemini fees apply.
Who can use Gemini Gifting?
All fully-verified U.S. and Singapore based Gemini users with an available bitcoin trading balance. Gemini Gifting is not available for Institutional users.
Who can receive a gift?
The recipient must be 18 years or older and must reside in the U.S. and Singapore with a fully-verified Gemini account in order to redeem the gift. Gemini Gifting is not available for Institutional users.
What if the recipient doesn’t have a Gemini account yet?
The recipient does not need to be a current Gemini user for you to send Bitcoin. However, they will need to create a Gemini account and complete full verification within 30 days to access the gifted Bitcoin.
The funds remain in your account but are removed from your trading balance until the recipient redeems the gift. If the recipient does not create an account or fails to complete full verification within the 30-day period, the gift is canceled, and the funds are returned to your trading balance, making them accessible to you again.
How will the recipient be notified of the gift?
The recipient will receive an email from Gemini with the gift message and amount.
How long will it take for my gift to be delivered?
The recipient will be notified after the gift has been sent. Once the recipient successfully redeems the gift, they will see the gifted amount in their BTC balance.
Please allow up to 15 minutes after the gift has been redeemed for the full amount to be reflected.
What happens if the recipient doesn't accept my gift?
If the recipient does not redeem your gift within 30 days, the gift will be canceled, and the funds will be returned to your trading balance. This means the funds become fully accessible to you again.
What if I want to give a gift but don’t have any bitcoin?
You are only able to gift the bitcoin that you hold in your trading balance.
Once your Gemini account is verified, you will be able to link a bank account and transfer funds into your Gemini wallet in order to purchase bitcoin.
Is there a limit on the amount that I can gift?
Users may send gifts ranging from approximately $5 to $500 USD per transaction, with a monthly limit of $2,000 USD (amounts are subject to Bitcoin's exchange rate fluctuations).
How does the recipient redeem the gift?
The recipient will receive an email from Gemini with the gift details. If they have an existing Gemini account associated with that email address, they can redeem the gift by following the link in the email and logging in.
If they do not have a Gemini account yet, they can follow the link in the email to create an account and redeem the gift. Alternatively, if the recipient does have a Gemini account but it is linked to another email address, they will be able to copy the gift code and insert it into their Gemini account. Can a gift be canceled?
No, a sender cannot cancel a gift once it has been sent.
