Here’s a quick review of the ins and outs of margin trading.
What Is Crypto Margin Trading?
Margin trading allows customers to borrow funds from an exchange to trade assets. In crypto markets, this means controlling a larger position than what the initial capital would allow. The bottom line: Borrowed funds amplify trade size. The ratio between the collateral you deposited and the amount you can trade is known as leverage.
What Are the Advantages of Margin Trading?
Margin trading allows traders to increase position size through borrowed funds, which can magnify gains and losses. Leverage increases the size of potential gains if the market moves in a customer’s favor. Using leverage, traders can control a larger position than they would with their own capital alone. This can lead to amplified gains if the market moves in their favor.
What Is Short Trading?
Gemini’s new short trading capabilities allow investors to hedge risk to their portfolios, as well as pursue relative value and outperformance strategies. Short trading may be used to hedge your crypto portfolio throughout the bear market.
What Else Should I Know?
When trading on margin, customers are required to pay interest on borrowed funds. Please note that Gemini manages margin through automatic liquidations, so we recommend maintaining enough collateral in your account to support your positions at all times.
