SWIFT Author

SWIFT Author is an XML-based WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) environment that makes it easy to create SWIFT courses and/or SWIFT adaptive and fixed-length tests.

SWIFT courses and tests can be created using SWIFT Author by anyone that has basic PC skills (e.g., file management and WYSIWYG editing). For more engaging and sophisticated content, knowledge of HTML and general web development, i.e., formatting text, creating lists, hyperlinks, inserting images, and awareness of web-delivery issues such as file and screen size are recommended.

For simulations, proficiency in a scripting language (such as JavaScript), stylesheets, and/or animation tools (such as Flash) are recommended. Content residing elsewhere can also be referenced or "linked to" from within a SWIFT course.

Highlights:

  • XML/DHTML/HTML content.
  • IMS compliant content metadata support.
  • Embedded, pedagogically sound course structure that supports solid instructional design.
  • Search content, titles, and metadata easily through a familiar search interface (single or all open documents). Automatically link to content by clicking on entry in results window.
  • Includes new docking output dialog.
  • Cut/copy/paste to and from system clipboard.
  • Drag and drop content within documents, between open document windows, and from external applications (Word, Excel, FrontPage, etc.).
  • Create and publish tests external to a SWIFT eLearning course by repurposing course content.
  • Specify fixed length test question randomization, question pools, and individual question option randomization.
  • Import existing content or create it from scratch using SWIFT Author or favourite applications.
  • Collaborative development is easier, more efficient, and consistent.
  • Better document verification functionality. Now only completely valid XML documents may be published to GeMS Server reducing development debugging time.
  • Existing SWIFT SGML documents may now be imported and saved as XML documents. Other formats soon to follow.
  • Seven question types with cognitive feedback
  • Internationalization capabilities.
